August/September:
- Take the strongest curriculum possible. Look at the admission requirements of the colleges you are interested in. Any changes to your schedule MUST happen before the start of the school year.
- Make this year count! Junior year grades are very important!
- Stay involved in extracurricular activities and community service. Run for office and make an impact!
- Continue to visit the CRC and use Naviance to research colleges, careers, and majors.
- If you are interested in being a college athlete, then check out the NCAA Clearinghouse Workshop co-hosted by LHS. It will be at VHHS on September 12th! Come to the CRC for details!
- IMPORTANT: Visit with college representatives in the CRC throughout the fall.
- Ask yourself questions about your future. What should I do after high school? Where should I go to school? Where will I be admitted? Research these questions on Naviance.
- Register for the PSAT/NMSQT.
October:
- Take the PSAT/NMSQT.
- Attend the ICE College Fair at CLC.
- Attend one of the CRC's Open House nights.
- Think about your major. Research majors in the CRC.
November:
- Financial Aid Workshop. College financial aid professionals will present and get you started on the road to paying for college.Though this workshop (one of two) focuses on the families of seniors, it may be helpful for the families of juniors. Space will be limited.
January:
- Register for the LHS ACT Prep class. Information will be mailed home in December. If our program does not meet your needs or you want an SAT prep class, see the CRC for more options.
February:
- Complete a final update to your four-year plan and register for senior classes. Continue to take a strong curriculum.
- Attend our 'Cats to College Workshop for College-Bound Juniors. Sessions on a variety of college-related topics, all delivered by college admission professionals, will be available. The year's don't-miss event for juniors and parents!
- Plan for your summer.
March:
- Attend the ICE College Fair at CLC.
- Continue to investigate colleges in the CRC.
- Plan college visits for Spring Break and Summer Vacation.
- Complete My Game Plan and My Colleges in Naviance.
April:
- Take the ACT.
- Attend the Junior/Parent Conference with your counselor to discuss graduation requirements and post high school plans.
May:
- Take the SAT and/or AP tests, if appropriate.
- Narrow college choices through research, visits, talks with your counselor, college counselor and parents.
- In June, take another look at Naviance as the data from the graduating class has been updated.
June thru August:
- Contact colleges for information. You can do this through Naviance.
- Visit colleges. Work on college essay ideas.
- Update your potential colleges and do your research on Naviance! Be aware of reaches, probables and clear admits. Narrow your college list.
