Clubs and Activities

This club's purpose is to form a friendly and safe community of people who all want to learn new Knitting and Crocheting skills.  

LASO is a group of students who welcome all those who are interested in and or identify with Latino American culture.  It will prove students to feel welcome, supported, educating ourselves and the greater community about the Latinx culture, customs, challenges combating stereotypes and bias. 

Latin club is an organization open to all students who love Roman history, culture, mythology, and language. The club is primarily a social club, and yearly outings include trips to the Olive Garden for dinner, Greek and Roman themed movie nights, bowling, and laser tag. We also celebrate the most important Roman festivals, such as Saturnalia, with food and games. Latin Club caps off the year with a “Roman Olympics” where teams can participate in events such chariot racing, footraces, catapult construction, and mosaic making. Enrollment in Latin class is not required. 

LEAF was formed to serve the communities of Libertyville and Vernon Hills and the students and faculty of LHS.  LEAF’s objectives are to promote environmental awareness and encourage environmental activities at LHS while networking with existing programs locally, nationally and globally. Each week the club collects the school's recycling and each year they engage in local environmental activities and hold fundraisers to support conservation organizations.  

From the madrigals to pop a cappella, the Master Singers cover the musical spectrum.  Auditions for membership are required. The group performs at the Holiday Festival, Cabaret, and Spring Choral Concert.  

Do you like to be challenged, to think in new ways and to broaden your mathematical horizons? If so, you will fit in perfectly on the Math Team. The Math Team participates in monthly competitions covering topics ranging from counting to calculus. 

Math Team practice is every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Room 235. All are welcome!

Bring the excitement of courtroom drama to life! This team prepares a case, either criminal or civil, and competes against other schools in the area.  Team members will serve as attorneys, witnesses, or both throughout the competition season. The year culminates with the state competition held in March in Springfield. In addition to the school sponsor(s), local attorneys volunteer to help the members hone in their litigation skills.

This club trains students to understand the problems of different countries throughout the world. Students interested should apply and train for the annual excursions, area contests and to the national Model United Nations Conference.

(MSA) is a national organization with many branches in various universities, colleges and high schools around the country. It is a club designed to promote the human values that Islam emphasizes: community, equality, justice, mercy, compassion and peace. The club is designed to promote understanding and awareness of Islamic heritage to other LHS students.  

This is an audition based dance company featuring a variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet, modern and tap dance. Members have the opportunity to learn student, faculty, and guest artist choreography to perform in a formally staged concert. Orchesis is open to all grade levels, and auditions are held in November with a performance in March. NU Delta Alpha Dance Honor Society is a national dance honor society for high school students, which recognizes outstanding academic and artistic achievement, including performance, production, scholarship, technology, and community service. Students admitted by being actively involved in dance classes, maintaining a B average, completing an application, and earning 30 membership points. Meetings take place periodically after school throughout the year, and students involved participate in dance workshops and community service projects.  

Membership into the LHS chapter of the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors a student can receive in District 128.  Membership is open to seniors. Eligible members with a gpa of 3.6 unweighted or higher can apply at the end of junior year or beginning of senior year. A committee elects members.  In addition to scholarship, members must show evidence of service, character and leadership.  The NHS selection process can be found at www.nhs.us   

This club involves sharing images, learning new photography techniques, working with Lightroom and Photoshop and other free editing programs. The club also works with cell phone images and other types of digital cameras.  Sometimes there are after school or weekend outings to take photos in different locations.

The purpose of this club would be to engage students in a fun low stress activity. Pickleball helps students come together, be competitive, and find a community of racket sport loving people. As a tennis player pickleball comes naturally but it also does for non-tennis players. It is a great beginner sport and good for people who want a competitive scene but also a casual scene.

Our club is more than just a place to play ping pong; it's a vibrant community where enthusiasts, beginners, and players from all levels come together to share their love for this fast-paced and exciting sport.

Our club prides itself on fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where everyone, regardless of skill level, can enjoy the sport of table tennis. We have 14 high-quality tables and excellent paddles. You you can enjoy the game year-round, no matter the weather from August to Spring. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just a neophyte looking for a new hobby, the Ping Pong Club is the place to be. Come join our thriving community, bring your friends, improve your skills, and share your passion for ping pong. We look forward to seeing you at our tables every Friday after school in the Field House or in the corridors by the West Gym. We also have a Ping Pong robot to improve your skills. Just come and hit the ball! Satisfaction and fun guaranteed.

This organization is responsible for the technical work for most any event at LHS. Consist of anything from a simple set up for a meeting in the Studio Theater to special effects lighting and complex sound systems for the Jazz band concert. Their ultimate responsibility to produce a professional looking and sounding show. Members of Production Services are in charge of lighting crew, sound crew, and set crew for all the theatre productions.  

Students in psychology club will have the opportunity to engage in activities and demonstrations, hear from experts in the field, and explore careers related to psychology. Prior events include learning about crime scene analysis and fingerprinting, learning about how to get better sleep, making impossible figures, organizing a walk for mental health, and running a brain awareness week. No prior knowledge of psychology is necessary.  

A student run organization that promotes acts of kindness within our school and community.  We are rooted in the belief that all people can connect through kindness and that kindness can be taught. Remind everyone to look for the good in people and praise it all the time!  Members promote generosity, compassion for others, and positive school culture through student-led community service projects.  Our goal is to change the world with kindness! 

The Robotics Team is for students who are interested in science, engineering and programming. The team will be divided into smaller teams and will be able to design, build, and compete with a robot at the robotic competitions held at Abbott Labortories using Lego Mindstorm Kits. There are eight competitions with the last as a public event.  

SASA is a club at various high schools around the U.S. and even in Lake County. The club's purpose is to provide fellowship for south asian students as well as learn and connect through fun activities and events themed around South Asian culture. We already have connections in place and may even collaborate with SASA at other high schools for large event.  

Scholastic Bowl is an IHSA activity. In teams of five, students compete against many high schools in the Chicago area to answer questions covering a broad base of knowledge which includes math, science, history, geography, music, literature, mythology, art history, spelling, grammar, sports, current events and entertainment. Think Jeopardy!, except with four friends on your team. 

A national, non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of K-12 Science Education. Students participate in competitive tournaments. The teamwork required in many Science Olympiad events parallels the collaborative group dynamic of scientists in real-world settings.

This is a club dedicated to discussing, listening, and debating hip-hop music and culture. This is a broad genre, and we are open to many new selections. From the early 90’s to the present, we attempt to indulge in as many artists as possible. Throughout the year, we meet once a week. Before every meeting, we are assigned to listen/research an album, song(s), or something of hip-hop culture. At the meeting, we discuss what we were assigned while simultaneously eating scones. Our goal is to allow students to express themselves through hip-hop culture while having as much fun as possible.  

This council is open to all seniors and will represent the entire senior class. The elected Senior Student Council Class Officers will direct this group. The Senior Class council will have bi-weekly meetings to organize and plan homecoming activities, community service projects, dances, graduation and class gift.  

Slant of Light is LHS's literary arts magazine, published once each year -- in the spring. It contains the best of LHS students' submitted work: both writing (poems, short stories, memoir excerpts, etc.) and artwork (drawings, paintings, photos, sculptures, fashion design, etc.). The staff of Slant of Light gathers submissions, rates their quality, and puts together the magazine (2nd semester). The staff then decides on the Barb Gwin Award winner, given to the best writer, and the Art Award, given to the best artist.

We meet periodically, primarily during the second semester. Students should keep an eye on the 2nd period announcements for updates and follow our Instagram account, @slantoflightlhs, for the latest information.

SnoCats is the ski and snowboard club that provides students with an opportunity to refine their ski and snowboarding skills at various  resorts around Illinois and Wisconsin.  Whether you are a novice or an expert, gather your friends and get ready for fun. 

This council is open to all sophomores and will represent the entire sophomore class. The elected Sophomore Student Council Class Officers will direct this group. The Sophomore Class council will have bi-weekly meetings to organize and plan homecoming activities, community service projects and dances.  

This is LHS’s very own Drama Club, open to all students who are interested in any aspect of theater.  Every year, we take several field trips to the Illinois High School Association Theater Festival, as well as to see shows in local theaters and in Chicago.   Stageplayers meetings are every other Tuesday at 3:35 in the Studio Theatre.

This group helps those students new to the district successfully transition into the LHS Community.  Students are utilized throughout the school year on an as–needed-basis.  All students are welcome.

The Topcats Program will provide an opportunity for LHS students to mentor “at-risk” elementary age students one afternoon a week on a set day. Topcats is open to any student at any grade level who will commit approximately 2 1/2 hours a week after school from 3:30pm. to 6:00pm for the entire school year.

If you are a soprano or alto and like to sing pop music from the 1980's to present, this group is for you. The TrebleMakers meet one day a week after school in the music department and is open to any soprano or alto at LHS, grades 9-12.  No audition is required. The TrebleMakers perform three times a year at the Holiday Festival, Cabaret, and Spring Choral Concert.  

WHA will create display cases and social media accounts to gain student's attention and interest in history. We have a display case set up that shows old LHS yearbooks and magazines, to grasp student's attention as they walk through the halls. We will create a social media account, to attract more students who regularly check their phones. On social media accounts, we will also post interesting and fun historical pictures and snippets of articles from our school to gain student's attention. By posting about past meetings and reminding them of upcoming ones, students will want to join.  

Wildcat Guard is composed of those aquatic enthusiasts who want to help the school and community by working as lifeguards for our weekend and evening community programs. Lifeguard certification is required to lifeguard for D128 Master's Swim Program, D128 Special Olympics (Stars) Swim Team, Community Open Swim, for organizations that rent the pool needing lifeguard coverage, and lifeguarding for the PE classes as needed. Inservices will be held monthly to stay current on skills. If you are not a certified lifeguard, you are welcome to come to our in-services to see what lifeguarding entails.  

Wildcat Productions is a media production club. We mainly focus on live sports broadcasts(football and basketball) and fine arts broadcasts, but also creative video production and editing. If you have any interest in video cameras, video editing or any aspect of a multi-camera broadcast this is the place for you!  

Wildcats Rise is a club (founded Fall 2020) that provides a family-like atmosphere for Wildcats interested in connecting with other students regarding optimal physical and mental health, i.e., core Life of a Wildcat topics. Each member is assigned to a small group (family) co-led by two seniors. Club activities include small group/family meetings as well as large group, whole club activities.  

Writers' Club is a great opportunity for student writers to participate in Libertyville High School's writing community.  Open to students of all writing abilities, meetings allow students to practice their writing, editing, and presentation skills.  Additionally, students will learn about writing contests and other publishing opportunities, including participation in Writers Expo.  Students are welcome at any and all meetings.  

WYSE has several competition teams which allow high achieving science and math students to compete against other schools in the state.  The Academic Challenge Team is a group of 14 students who are selected to participate in competition offered in seven subject areas. The Science Bowl is a tournament-style academic competition.  All students are welcome to come to meetings, but the competition teams are generally upperclassmen in AP math and science courses.  

Young Investors is a student-led club in which students meet to discuss and explore various topics related to investing.  Students discuss stocks, bonds, ETFs and cryptocurrencies and compete in a stock investing simulation.
